Property Deed Scam

ADVICE Josh Taylor. December 12, 2023

Homeowners in San Diego should be cautious about receiving letters encouraging payment for property deeds circulating in the county. These seemingly official letters, although not originating from the Recorder’s Office, are sent by companies like the Local Records Office, First Documents, and National Record Service, Inc. These entities have faced legal actions in other states for deceptive practices.

The letters prompt homeowners to send a check ranging from $59.50 to $89.00, promising a certified deed and possibly a property profile containing parcel numbers, nearby home values, and local school information. It's important to note that such information is either available to the public at a lower cost or can be obtained for free. Homeowners in San Diego can obtain copies of their property deeds from the assessors' office at no charge. To request a free copy at arcc-acclaim.
